Robert Cummings

Robert E. Cummings, age 96, a resident of Portland, passed away on Friday, March 11, 2016 at Albany Health and Rehab in Albany, Indiana.

Robert was born on April 2, 1919, in Redkey, Indiana, the son of Ervin and Grace (Berry) Cummings.  He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving during World War II.  He worked as an auto mechanic for several years.  Robert was a member of the Hopewell of Life Ministries in rural Portland.  Robert married Alta Vanderlinden on October 9, 1948 and she passed away on August 1, 1995.  He later married Marilyn Sue Adney on September 21, 2000.

3 sons:  Robert L. Cummings (wife Pat) – Cabot, Arkansas

David L. Cummings – Gulfport, Mississippi

Darrel E. Cummings – Indianapolis, Indiana

1 daughter:  Sandra Bilbrey – Tennessee

3 step-sons:  Scott Roll – Marion, Indiana

Randall Roll – Portland, Indiana

Todd Roll – Indianapolis, Indiana

1 brother:  Charles Cummings – Parker City, Indiana

1 sister:  Mary Denney – Ridgeville, Indiana

Several grandchildren and great grandchildren

Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 3-7 p.m. at the Williamson and Spencer Funeral Home in Portland.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday at 11 a.m. at the Williamson and Spencer Funeral Home in Portland.  Pastor Herb Hummel and Pastor Ruth Funk will officiate.  Burial will follow in the Claycomb Cemetery, west of Portland.

Memorials may be directed towards the Jay County Cancer Society.
