Robert E. Hayden, age 82, a resident of rural Portland in Jefferson Township, Jay County, passed away on Sunday, February 09, 2014 at Millers Merry Manor in Dunkirk.
Robert was born on June 13, 1931, in Delaware County, Indiana, the son of Arnold and Grace (Borum) Hayden. He graduated from Governor I.P. Gray High School. He was veteran of the U.S. Army serving during the Korean Conflict. He worked for Indiana Glass in Dunkirk, Sheller Globe in Montpelier, NAAS Foods of Portland and Horizon Homes in Portland. Robert married Patty J. Hickey on September 12, 1954 and she passed away on December 28, 2008.

Connie Mock – Berne, Indiana
2 sons: Phillip E. Hayden – rural Portland, Indiana
Donald Hayden (wife Vicki) – Cromwell, Indiana
3 brothers: Earl Hayden (wife Shirley) – Portland, Indiana
Les Hayden (wife Stella)– Portland, Indiana
Tom Hayden (wife Quanda)– Portland, Indiana
2 sisters: Pat Noble – Redkey, Indiana
Nancy Hill (husband Dave)– Berne, Indiana
6 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren
Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 1-3 p.m. and 4-7 p.m. at the Williamson and Spencer Funeral Home in Portland.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday at 11 a.m. at the Williamson and Spencer Funeral Home in Portland. Burial will follow in the Salamonia Cemetery in Salamonia, Indiana. The American Legion Post #211 of Portland will conduct military graveside rites.
