Sandy Shaver

Sandra “Sandy” Shaver, age 80, a resident of rural Portland, passed away on Sunday, June 28, 2026 at IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital in Muncie.

Sandy was born December 24, 1945, in Portland, Indiana, the daughter of George and Mary (Orr) Jeffery. She graduated from Portland High School in 1963. Sandy worked for Indiana Unemployment and later served as a secretary and dispatcher for the Jay County Sherrif’s Department. She was a kind and gentle soul who never met a stranger and had the unique ability to get along with everyone she met.

Sandy married DeWayne Shaver on December 28, 1974.

Her husband: DeWayne Shaver – Portland, Indiana

Her son: Tim Kunkle (wife Cherilyn) – Gainesville, Texas

Grandchildren: Stephanie and Nick Oviedo – Aubrey, Texas

Great-grandchild: Bailee Oviedo – Aubrey, Texas

Siblings: Mark Jeffery (wife Jenny), Kim Wolfert (husband Kurt), Pam Broxterman (husband Bruce)

She was preceded in death by her parents, George Jeffery and Mary Atha and siblings George Jeffery, Jr. (wife Joan) and Claudia Sallin.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, July 2, 2026, from 4-7 p.m. at Williamson-Spencer and Penrod Funeral Home in Portland. Funeral services will be held on Friday, July 3, 2026, at 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Pastor Joe Hines will officiate and burial will follow at Salamonia Cemetery.

Memorials may be directed to the charity of the donor’s choice.
