Virginia Mae Roush-Herman, born Virginia Mae Gross on July 6, 1942, in Tuscola, Illinois, passed away peacefully on April 3, 2025 in San Benito, Texas at the age of 82. She was a former resident of Portland.
Virginia’s life was marked by deep devotion to her family and a zest for life that touched all who knew her. She was the daughter of Clarence and Esther Gross and grew up surrounded by the values of love, resilience, and joy that she carried with her throughout her life.
In 1960 Virginia married Delbert Dave Roush. Together they built a life filled with shared dreams and the blessings of family until his passing in 1989. In 1993 she found love again and remarried Fred Herman. Their union brought companionship and happiness until Fred’s passing in 2016.
Virginia was a proud mother to four sons; David Doug Roush, Texas; Don (Belinda) Roush, Bryant; Dennis Roush, Portland; Duane (Rose) Roush, Berne. Her legacy continues through her grandchildren Josh Roush, New Haven; Janae (Corvin) McIntire, Bryant; Chelsea (Quinton) Roush, Fort Wayne and Drew (Erin) Roush, Linn Grove. She also had 10 great grandchildren who brought immense joy to her later years.
She is also remembered by her siblings: Gene (Barb) Gross, Florida; Jeanette Lawrence, Florida; Brother-in-law John (Karen) Roush, Lima, Ohio; Sister-in-law Cathy (Don) Reynolds, Greenville, Ohio. She was preceded in death by her sister-in-law Patty Coburn and brother-in-law Joe Lawrence.
Virginia had a fun-loving spirit and embraced every opportunity to enjoy life. She especially cherished time spent with her family. Her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the heart of her world. Whenever traveling to new places or cast a line while fishing, she found joy in simple pleasures and created lasting memories with those around her.
Her warmth, laughter and unwavering love will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege to know her. May her memory bring comfort to those who loved her and continue to inspire joy in their lives.
A graveside service was held on May 3, 2025 at Green Park Cemetery in Portland.
