David Swain DeHoff, age 83, a resident of Portland, passed away on Tuesday, August 31, 2021 at his home following a battle with cancer.
David was born on September 17, 1937, in Portland, Indiana, the son of Billy and Verlinda (Swain) DeHoff. He graduated from Portland High School in 1955 and served in the Naval Air Reserve and on active duty on the USS Antietam for 2 years receiving 3rd class Petty Officer. David delivered milk for Jacks Dairy and Home Dairy. He later worked for Naas Foods and served as shipping and receiving manager at Jay Products for 25 years. David also served as an assistant at Williamson-Spencer and Penrod Funeral Home for several years.
David was a life member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Portland. He was also a member of Portland Breakfast Optimist Club where he received Rookie of the Year and Optimist of the Year, Jay County Historical Society and American Legion Post #211 of Portland where he served on the honor guard.
David married Judy Richards on January 15, 1982.

Grandchildren: Trevor Walker (wife Melissa), Krista Durbin (husband Tony) and Garry Robert Walker, Jr.
Great grandchildren: Brayden Walker, Emily Bell, Makenna Walker, Larissa Walker, Jacob Walker, Adrian Camp, Craig Camp and Lance Camp.
Brothers: Richard DeHoff (wife Waneta) – Indianapolis, Indiana, Fred DeHoff (wife Virginia) – Portland, Indiana and Harold DeHoff (wife Jean) – Chalmers, Indiana

Visitation will be held on Saturday, September 11, 2021 from 11 a.m. – 2 p.m. at Williamson-Spencer and Penrod Funeral Home in Portland. Services to celebrate David’s life will follow at 2 p.m. on Saturday at the funeral home. Pastor Darrell Borders will officiate the service and burial will follow at Wells Cemetery, northwest of Portland. American Legion Post #211 of Portland will conduct military graveside rites.
Memorials may be directed towards Trinity United Methodist Church or Portland Breakfast Optimist Club.
