Harold Prouty, age 94, a former resident of Pennville, passed away Tuesday, June 14, 2022. He and his wife, Ruth, operated a small farm in Penn Twp. for many years. He retired from Franklin Trucking; he owned and operated P&L Trucking. He was a member of the Union Chapel Church in Bryant, Gideons International and he was an original member/singer in the Christian Brothers Quintet.
Harold graduated from Pennville High School in 1946 and received a Bachelor's Degree from Ball State University. He was a veteran of the US Army during the Korean Conflict from 1950-1952.
He was born February 18, 1928 in Marion, Indiana, to Manderville and Hazel (Lockwood) Prouty. He was married on March 1, 1959 to Ruth Merchant. He is survived by his wife of 63 years- Ruth Prouty of Portland; two daughters- LaVetha Loucks (husband-Ramon), Portland, Mary Lou Hammond, Redkey, 10 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, and 4 great-great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Roxann Doll and a granddaughter, Somer Doll.
Visitation will be held from 10:00am-11:00am on Monday at the Williamson Spencer and Penrod Funeral Home in Portland. Funeral services will follow at 11:00am with Pastor Mike Harris officiating the service. Graveside services will be held at 2:00pm at the Gardens of Memory in Muncie. American Legion Post 211 will be in charge of military rites at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to The Gideons International.
