Peggy Atkinson

Peggy Atkinson age 51, a resident of Portland, Indiana, passed away on Saturday, July 8, 2023 at her home.

Peggy was born July 21, 1971 in Portland, Indiana, the daughter of James “Jim” and Barbara (Hummel) Bruner.  She graduated from Jay County High School in 1989 and earned an Associate’s Degree from Ball State University.  Peggy was very active with the Jay County Special Olympics and the Mighty Marvels Optimist Club of Portland.  Peggy worked for the Jay County Health Department as the Health Registrar for many years.

She married Troy Atkinson on June 23, 1990.

Husband: Troy Atkinson – Portland, Indiana

Son: Kurtis Atkinson – Portland, Indiana

Bonus Son: Sam Glessner – Portland, Indiana

Special Son and Daughter: Seth and Tisa Scott – Portland, Indiana

Father: Jim Bruner (wife Cheryl) – Portland, Indiana

Brother: Terry Bruner (wife Cathy) – Auburn, Indiana

Sister: Suzanne Clevenger (husband Greg) – Ridgeville, Indiana

Her Dog: Maverick

Several nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews.

Visitation will be Tuesday July 11, 2023 from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Williamson-Spencer and Penrod Funeral Home in Portland.  Funeral service will be Wednesday July 12, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at Williamson-Spencer and Penrod Funeral Home in Portland.  Burial will follow at Salamonia Cemetery in Salamonia, Indiana.  

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Jay County Special Olympics or Jay County Cancer Society.
