Sharon Oates, age 82 a resident of Kenton, Ohio and a former Jay County resident, passed away Monday, August 9, 2021 at Blanchard Valley Hospital in Findlay, Ohio. She retired from Jay School Corporation where she was the food service manager for Dunkirk schools. She was a volunteer for Ohio Health Hardin Memorial Hospital in Kenton.
She was a 1957 graduate of Redkey High School, and a member of the First Baptist Church, in Kenton.
Sharon Oates was born March 31, 1939 in Portland, Indiana the daughter of Everett and Aunita (Ford) Gordon. She was married to Lowell Turner and he passed away in 1983. She then married Gene Oates in 1992.

Her husband- Gene Oates, Kenton, Ohio
3 Sons- Scott Turner (wife-Carmelita). Redkey, Indiana, Greg Turner (wife-Niki), Santa Clause, Indiana, and Gene Turner (wife-Linda), Anderson, S.C.
3 Daughters- June Harbor (husband-Jess), Lewistown, Ohio, Cheryl Marshall (husband-Bob), Marysville, Ohio, and Vicki Carrington, Anderson S.C.
Brother- Robert Gordon (wife-Ramona), Redkey, Indiana
Sister- Sandra Loyd (husband-Larry), Portland, Indiana
15 Grandchildren, several Great Grandchildren
She was preceded in death by 2 sons- Troy and Mark Turner, a granddaughter- Sarona Turner and a daughter- Vicky Oates
Visitation will be held from 9:00am-11:00am Saturday in the Williamson-Spencer and Penrod Funeral Home in Portland. Services will immediately follow at 11:00am at the funeral home. Pastor Jonathan Edwards will officiate and burial will follow in Hillcrest Cemetery in Redkey.
A Memorial service will also be held at a later date in Kenton,Ohio
