Shelby Franklin, Jr.

Shelby Franklin, Jr., age 85, a resident of Portland, passed away on Thursday, November 12, 2020 at IU Health Jay Hospital in Portland.

            Shelby was born on October 28, 1935, in New Castle, Indiana, the son of James Shelby and Dorothy (McCaffrey) Franklin.  Shelby worked for Brodericks of Muncie for 28 years, retiring in 1992.  He was a member of West Walnut Street Church of Christ in Portland.  Shelby married Janeen Ward on June 7, 1964. 

            Survivors include:

            His loving wife of 56 years:  Janeen Franklin – Portland, Indiana

            His children:  Candy Hobson (husband John) – Winchester, Indiana

                                    Lori Hirst (Fiancé Tim Frazee) – Eaton, Indiana

                                    Daniel Franklin (wife Tammy) – Greenville, Ohio

                                    Amy Smith – Geneva, Indiana

                                    Jason Franklin – Muncie, Indiana

            6 grandchildren and 3 great-granddaughters

            A private service for the family will be held on Monday.  Pastor Gil Alicea will conduct the service and burial will follow in Green Park Cemetery in Portland.
